Evaluating a Pan-Cancer Vaccine Platform for the Treatment of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Dr. Magnus Hoffmann, an assistant investigator with the Gladstone Infectious Disease Institute and the Gladstone Institute of Data Science and Biotechnology, is developing a new type of cancer vaccine designed to help the immune system recognize and attack tumors. His goal is to create a scalable, “off-the-shelf” immunotherapy platform that could make effective cancer vaccines more widely available across many types of cancer.

The immune system is naturally equipped to detect and eliminate abnormal cells, but cancer often develops ways to avoid being recognized. Dr. Magnus Hoffmann is developing a new vaccine platform that helps the immune system recognize tumors, enabling the body to mount a stronger and more targeted attack against cancer. Unlike today’s personalized cancer vaccines, which must be custom-made for each patient, this approach aims to create a more scalable “off-the-shelf” therapy that could be used across many types of cancer, such as aggressive breast cancer. Building on expertise in cellular engineering and immune modulation, Hoffmann’s lab is developing a next-generation immunotherapy platform that has the potential to expand access to cancer vaccines while reducing the time and cost required to deliver treatment.
